Did you ever look in the mirror and think to yourself “If I didn’t have those wrinkles I’d look 10 years younger?”
If you answered yes then Botox may be right for you. You may also consider the recently FDA-approved Dysport which is similar to Botox. Each has its own advantages. Our experienced Michigan Botox providers – Dr. Mok or Dr. Kotlus – will explain each injectable during your consultation, and they will determine which is best for you.
Women tend to show more expression in their face, and their skin is typically more delicate, so wrinkles appear exaggerated and more permanent. The lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines) are a result of facial muscles contracting over time. Other facial areas that often develop lines are the outer corners of the eyes (the “crow’s feet”), forehead and the mouth. All of these areas can be successfully treated with Botox injections at our Livonia medical spa.
What is Botox?
Botox is a tiny protein that is produced in a lab and injected into muscles that cause wrinkles. The protein blocks the nerve impulses to the muscles that have overgrown, causing wrinkles. Because Botox is a copy of a protein that occurs in nature, it naturally wears off in 3-4 months.
What is the difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox relaxes muscles and is mostly used on the upper face. Fillers are used to fill wrinkles and can be used anywhere. Most people get both. For information on fillers click here.
What is Botox commonly used for?
The most common use of Botox is the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes, such as frown lines, the vertical lines between your eyes that make you appear angry. Crow’s feet are lines on the sides of your eyes that make you look tired. Forehead worry lines make you look stressed. There are numerous other areas that cosmetic Botox can treat, such as a bunny line, which is the line that runs horizontal across the top of your nose. Wolf lines are the lines on the side of your nose. There are also other cosmetic uses of Botox that are covered below.
Before and After Botox Treatment
Botox is a simple, 10-minute treatment of a few tiny injections — that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Discomfort is usually minimal and brief requiring no downtime.
The treatment does not radically change your facial appearance. You can still frown or look surprised — without the wrinkles between your brows! Botox works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the muscle activity that causes wrinkles to form.
Your Botox Procedure
Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. During the purification process, any harmful properties are removed, and Botox is made safe for the human skin. In addition to aesthetic applications, Botox has been used safely for more than ten years to treat ophthalmologic and neurological disorders.
During your appointment, Dr. Mok or Dr. Kotlus will inject small amounts of Botox in precisely selected areas of your face. Although most of our Botox Michigan patients do not experience any side effects, you might notice temporary swelling, redness, bruising or weakness of the nearby muscles. All of these side effects will disappear within a few days. However, in very rare cases, Botox injections can cause a temporary eyelid droop.
