Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved facial filler that restores volume to sunken areas. Most of our Michigan medspa patients require 2-4 treatments for an optimal result. Sculptra differs from other fillers in that it is not a gel but a liquid suspension of a material called poly-L-lactic acid. This liquid is injected underneath the skin to replace lost collagen and improve fullness. This process occurs gradually, over a period of months. The results can last for years.

Poly-L-lactic acid is biodegradable and has been used in medicine for many years in dissolvable sutures. As the material dissolves, it stimulates the body’s natural ability to produce collagen. Strategic placement of this liquid can restore youthfulness by volumizing and lifting targeted areas. It is well-understood that a hallmark of facial aging is fat loss and a sunken appearance. It many cases, what is interpreted in the mirror as sagging skin is actually caused by deflation. For this reason, adding lost volume can make the face look significantly younger. Some physicians use the term “liquid facelift” to describe the results seen after volumization treatment with Sculptra. Many patients undergo Sculptra treatment as an alternative to facial fat transfer.

Sculptra can be used to restore volume in the cheeks, nasolabial areas, temples, chin, and jawline. It is FDA-approved for the nasolabial area. The treatment itself has minimal discomfort and there can be temporary swelling or bruising afterward.
